Creating an emotionally & socially just society

Necessio Wellness Community is working to rewrite the narrative around mental health through compassion, education, advocacy and action.

Mental healthDignityBelongingOccupational justiceBreaking stigma

Mental health affects every community. But stigma can make people suffer in silence.

Necessio exists to help change that story. From the grassroots up, we work to replace fear with understanding, isolation with belonging, and neglect with practical care — so that people living with mental illness are met with compassion and dignity.

No one should have to face mental health challenges alone.

Our story

Born from a commitment to the people others overlook

We are Necessio Wellness Community, a community-based organization dedicated to rewriting the narrative of mental health through compassion and action. Since our inception in 2022, we have been driven by a shared commitment to address the plight of underprivileged individuals living with mental illness and those struggling with mental-health challenges. With our formal registration in 2024, our resolve to champion the right to mental health has only strengthened.

To truly make a difference, we believe we must address the root cause of stigma. That is why we sensitize communities about mental health from the grassroots level up — fostering understanding, acceptance and empathy so that people living with mental illness feel supported and valued, free from the burden of stigma.

We are also keen on promoting occupational justice: equitable access to the activities that contribute to a person's health, well-being and quality of life, by addressing the social, economic and cultural barriers that stand in the way.

2022

The beginning

A shared commitment to changing the conversation around mental health — starting with the people most often left out of it.

2024

Formal registration

The commitment became a formally registered community-based organization, operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

Today

Building a more just future

Working toward a society where people experiencing mental-health challenges are supported, valued and treated with dignity.

Our mission

A more just and emotionally healthy society

We are committed to building a more just and emotionally healthy society by providing support, resources, and education that help individuals thrive and overcome barriers to mental well-being.

Our vision

Support for everyone, fairness at the heart of community

We envision a world where everyone has access to the support they need for emotional health, and where fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our communities.

What we do

Turning compassion into action

Our three objectives, and the work that flows from them.

01 — Educate

Changing the conversation around mental health

Awareness from the grassroots up.

We educate society about mental health and the rights of people living with mental illnesses to help reduce stigma — through awareness campaigns, events and community sessions that build understanding and empathy. This includes promoting occupational justice: the importance of equitable opportunities for meaningful engagement in everyday activities.

02 — Advocate

Standing up for dignity and human rights

Freedom from inhumane treatment.

We advocate for the right of people living with mental illnesses to be free from inhumane treatment. Mental health is a human right, and championing it means speaking up for those whose voices are rarely heard — in hospitals, in homes and in the wider community.

03 — Support

Helping people through practical compassion

Essential items, emotional support, connection.

We work to improve the quality of life of stranded and underprivileged individuals living with mental illness and experiencing mental-health challenges — by donating essential items, offering emotional support, and creating opportunities for social connection and dignity.

Our programs

Where the work happens

Annual outreach and empowerment initiatives, each built around people who are too often overlooked.

Annual · Hospital outreach

Mathari Hospital Outreach Program

Mathari National Teaching & Referral Hospital, Nairobi

An annual mental-health awareness and support initiative aimed at reducing stigma and improving the well-being of individuals receiving psychiatric care. Through visits to patients, the program provides essential personal-care items — toothbrushes, underwear, slippers and more — alongside emotional support and opportunities for social connection. By engaging with patients and taking part in therapeutic activities, we seek to restore dignity, foster inclusion and advocate for a more compassionate approach to mental-health care.

Annual · Children's outreach

Rescue Centre & Children's Home Program

Supporting vulnerable children

An annual community outreach that supports vulnerable children by combining the provision of essential supplies with engaging mental-wellness activities. Through interactive games, emotional-learning sessions and positive self-expression exercises, the program promotes emotional well-being, resilience and social connection — creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for children to thrive.

Annual · Women's empowerment

Zaidi ya Mama

"More than a woman" — for women who use wheelchairs

Zaidi ya Mama empowers women who use wheelchairs through training in financial literacy, physical wellness and mental health. Born from our founder's first-hand interactions with women during wheelchair outreach programs, it offers practical skills, mentorship and ongoing support to promote independence, inclusion and an improved quality of life for women facing social and economic barriers in Nairobi. The program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals on poverty, health and well-being, and gender equality.

In development · Schools

JOYFULMi

Mental wellness for children aged 9–12

A school-based initiative in development, focused on promoting mental wellness at a key age for emotional and social development. It aims to equip children with skills to manage stress and build resilience, and to train student mental-health ambassadors who can recognise when a classmate is struggling and point them toward help — building a school culture where mental health can be talked about openly.

Occupational justice

Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate

Occupational justice means creating fair opportunities for people to participate in meaningful activities that support their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

The everyday things — working, learning, creating, caring for others, being part of a community — are where people build health and a sense of worth. But social, economic and cultural barriers can shut people out of them entirely, especially people living with mental illness or disability. Necessio works to remove those barriers.

Your circumstances should not determine your worth or your opportunity to participate.

Why support matters

Your support can help change someone's story

We don't measure this work in numbers alone. Here is what your support makes possible for a real person.

A listening ear

Someone experiencing a difficult moment can know they are not alone.

A safe community

Education can help replace stigma with understanding.

Essential support

Practical assistance can help someone experiencing hardship maintain dignity.

A fairer future

Advocacy can help create communities where people living with mental illness are treated with dignity.

Be part of it

Be part of the change

A more emotionally and socially just society doesn't happen by accident. It happens when people choose compassion, understanding and action.
